PN general secretary Clyde Puli on Thursday lambasted the “character assassination” that party leader Adrian Delia has been subjected to.
Addressing the PN’s Independence Day mass meeting on the Granaries in Floriana, Mr Puli said he still believed in Dr Delia’s vision, even though there was character assassination in a bid to silence him.
His speech focused on the tensions that arose within the party last year, admitting that the party needed to address its financial and internal problems to win again.
“We need our party to be at peace with itself,” he said.
“They are trying to divide us so they can so they can hide their sins, so that they can say that we cannot win.”
“We never had a journalist murdered, we never stopped people from protesting,” he said.
He also hit out at the controversial cash-for-passports scheme, saying the PN “would not sell Malta”.
The party, he said, saw 1,700 new paid-up members in the past year- its best record in 13 years he said as the crowd erupted into chants of Nazzjonalisti, Nazzjonalisti” and “Delia, Delia”.
The crowd is now being addressed by PN leader Adrian Delia, his second Independence Day address since being elected leader.
