Eleven spectators injured in the 2015 Paqpaqli Għall-Istrina supercar crash have received financial compensation, the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation said on Saturday evening.
In a brief statement, the MCCFF said that the compensation had been paid for by the event’s insurance coverage “and the government”, following talks between lawyers of the parties involved. 
The amount of money paid out was not disclosed.
President Coleiro Preca, members of her secretariat and organisers of the Paqpaqli roadshow faced six separate civil suits filed by people injured during the 2015 tragedy, when Paul Bailey lost control of a supercar and crashed into a crowd of spectators, injuring 23.
The MCCFF statement did not say whether the compensation settlement would bring all those suits to a close.
A spokesperson for the Office of the President said that while no amount of money could make up for their suffering, President Coleiro Preca hoped that the settlement “will provide them with a modicum of relief”.
