Two elderly brothers who came to blows while arguing over a field in Ħandaq, limits of Qormi, were released from arrest after each pleaded not guilty to threatening each other.
Francis Mifsud, 62, and his brother Carmel, 67, were arraigned separately on Friday morning after what had apparently started off as a verbal argument escalated to the point that the younger man punched his brother in the eye, with the the latter allegedly retaliating by threatening his sibling with a shotgun.
The incident landed the two brothers in court on Friday morning where Carmel Mifsud, sporting a black eye, was charged with carrying a firearm during the commission of a crime against the person, taking up arms against his brother, carrying a shotgun without a licence, threatening Francis Mifsud, attacking and insulting him as well as breaching the peace.
His brother Francis was charged with grievously injuring his sibling, insulting and threatening him and also breaching the peace.
After hearing the two men plead not guilty and after hearing submissions on the request for bail, the court, presided over by magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit, upheld the request against a deposit of €300 and a personal…
