The relationship between Malta and the EU Commission has never been as good as it is now, outgoing Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said on Monday.

Speaking at Castille, Juncker said that there had been certain problems faced but they had been solved with the help of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s leadership.

He also took the opportunity to praise the work that Malta’s EU Commissioner Karmenu Vella has done during his term.

Prime Minister Muscat, meanwhile, welcomed Juncker and his delegation to Malta, saying that even though Malta is the smallest EU member state it prides itself in being proactive and positive in facing issues and finding solutions for them.

He said that he looked forward to discussing certain issues where he thinks Malta holds more solutions than problems.

Talks between the two delegations will take place today and tomorrow in what is Juncker’s seventh visit to the islands.
