The Labour Party today said that today it was the court’s turn to say that former Nationalist Minister Jason Azzopardi must shoulder political responsibility for his actions. The Auditor General had also criticised Azzopardi.

In a statement referring to the court’s decision with regard to an appeal filed by Azzopardi against Minister Owen Bonnici, the PL said that Azzopardi does not carry credibility when he speaks of accountability and serious administration. “The worst scandals connected to public land were committed under his watch, the PL said.

There has been one declaration after another how Azzopardi’s administration was dubious and independent institutions blamed him for wrongdoings, the PL said.

In today’s judgment, the court considered the time when the Lowenbrau deal was reached at a time when Azzopardi was responsible for public land. “Whether he likes it or not, (Azzopardi) must shoulder political responsibility for what was happening under his watch,” the PL said.

The fact that Azzopardi did not shoulder this responsibility shows that he is a politician that talks a lot but does the opposite of what he says, the PL said.
