A truck which was transporting a mechanical shovel is stuck beneath the Kirkop tunnel.
The upper part of the mechanical shovel scraped the ceiling of the tunnel as the truck was being driven through, and the driver had no other option but to stop several metres into the tunnel.
The truck was going in the direction of Kirkop, and traffic leading to the tunnel in the area is accumulating. The tunnel was temporarily closed to traffic; it has now been reopened, but only one lane is being used.
Debris from the ceiling of the tunnel has fallen onto the road.
The main runway of the Malta International Airport passes above the tunnel where the truck is stuck.
