Transport Malta officers were spotted sheltering from the sun under trees that are set to be uprooted in the coming days.

The photo above was taken in Tal-Balal Road, San Gwann, earlier today. While the main works on  Tal-Balal Road have been completed, road-widening works are being carried out near the Ta’ Zwejt housing estate.

The central strip is being removed to make way for additional lanes while the kerb separating the main carriageway from the service road is being widened.

As a result, seven trees located on the same kerb are being removed.

While the number of trees that are set to be removed in this area are far fewer in number than the trees that will be sacrificed for the Central Link project, people have already started commenting about the ongoing environmental destruction.

Some also pointed out that it was ironic that TM officials were seeking the shade created by trees that will soon be no more.
