Work on the Regional Road project will come to an end this weekend, and as from next week the stretch of road which forms part of the north-south link will be re-opened in full, Infrastructure Malta said.

Final works of Regional Road project Friday and Saturday, IM said on its Facebook page.

Northbound carriageway, from Santa Venera towards Tal-Qroqq tunnels, will be closed tonight (Friday, 9 August) at 5pm and reopened tomorrow (Saturday) morning, “as we lay the topmost asphalt layer of its three new lanes”.

Southbound carriageway works were completed last night. Follow diversion signs or use alternative routes, IM said.

“Tonight and tomorrow morning, line marking works will be in progress to complete the six new lanes of this principal north-south route.  Some lanes may be closed to ensure workers’ safety. All lanes and the 7 junctions upgraded through this project will be ready and open to road users Saturday evening,” IM said.

Traffic this is more flowing from the south to the north today, but there are problems in the reverse direction, with long traffic jams reported on the Marsa side as well as on the Mriehel bypass, direction Santa Venera.

Infrastructure Malta also announced new arrangements on the southbound lanes at Aldo Moro Road Street in Marsa to SantaLucija, Luqa and the Malta International Airport from tonight. Expect delays of around 9 minutes, IM said.
