The way in which the government steamrolled over Santa Lucija residents and uprooted hundreds of trees shows that it does not care about peoples’ wellbeing, PN Leader Adrian Delia said on Monday.

Speaking in Santa Lucija at an activity for residents of the fourth electoral district, Delia said he was not against development but there needs to be a long-term plan where priority is given to the interests of residents.

Any development should be done after consultation with the residents that it would affect, he said.

Ignoring the concerns and needs of residents is regress, not progress, Delia said.

He said ERA did not find it significant that the jogging track would be removed, along with 4,000 square metres of agricultural land. This was happening at a time when our environment is being sacrificed on a daily basis.

The PN, Delia said is preparing a pre-budget document and the PN will show how, as an alternative government it would focus primarily on the wellbeing of citizens. He said a PN government would manage to safeguard the environment while solving the traffic problem and practising sustainable development.

Delia said he wants a better Malta, where peoples’ health and wellbeing came before everything else.
