Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia today repeated his call for an immediate suspension of the individual investor programme until an investigation into how the system is being abused is carried out.

Speaking on the party’s radio station, Delia said that it was clear that the way Maltese passports were being sold to foreigners is being abused, continuing to throw Malta’s reputation to the dogs.

He was referring to a documentary which was broadcast on French TV, which highlighted worrying issues on how Maltese passports were being sold to foreigners without any due diligence on the people buying them.

Instead of showing that it wanted to address the issue, the government was dismissing the problems that emerged, Delia said.

The government should take political responsibility for the mess that has been created, Delia said, with Prime Minister Joseph Muscat being directly responsible since the scheme fell under his portfolio.

Delia also referred to the pre-budget document which the PN made public on Friday, which he said dealt with all sectors of the Maltese economy.

He said that while the numbers showed that the Maltese economy was doing well, certain sectors such as the environment, the infrastructure and some parts of society were suffering the consequences.

There are challenges that need to be faced, Delia said, so that all citizens benefit from the economic progress the government was boasting about.
