Speaking in Parliament on Monday, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat confirmed that he met with the Caruana Galizia family and their representatives, although he did not go into detail as to what exactly was discussed during the meeting.

The family had requested a meeting following the launching of the public inquiry, saying they had reservations with certain individuals appointed to the inquiry board.

Muscat was replying to a question by Opposition Leader Adrian Delia, who also criticized the fact that it was a newspaper that recently revealed information about the investigation into the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia, and not the Police Commissioner.

“I expect that in a democratic country, it is not a newspaper that updates us on what is happening, and not the Prime Minister, but the Police Commissioner,” Delia insisted.

The Prime Minister retorted by maintaining that he had reservations as to whether the Police Commissioner should say anything about any investigation as that might undermine any investigations ongoing at the time.
