The National Transfusion Service has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations.

The service said that the blood reserve is low and urged people to donate blood, if possible today, tomorrow or Sunday.

The Service said that a good healthcare service depends on a sufficient blood reserve, that supplies the needs of the hospitals on the islands. The statement read that blood cannot be bought, and comes from the donations of altruistic and eligible people who donate blood.

The Blood Donation Centre in Guardamanġa will be open from 8 am to 6pm, and an identity card is needed.
