Mourners gathered on Tuesday night in Hamrun at the foot of the site where Miriam Pace was killed after her house collapsed into a construction site yesterday.
Miriam Pace, 54 years old, was found dead last night in the rubble of her house in Hamrun, some eight hours after it collapsed. Six people – including the architect and site technical officer of the project adcajent to the house – are under arrest in relation to the tragic case.
Mourners gathered in Hamrun for what was intended to be a silent vigil in Pace’s memory – but in spontaneous anger at the situation both Janet Walker and Caroline Micallef, who both lost their homes in similar circumstances in recent months, spoke of how the bullying of developers must be stopped.
Both lamented about how long it was taking for justice to be done, with Micallef noting that the development next door to what used to be her house had almost been completed and she was yet to see a single cent in compensation for what had happened.
Repubblika’s Vicky Ann Cremona said that it was shameful that developers were still left to do as they please and pocket money, and called, first and foremost, for the resignation of Infrastructure Minister Ian Borg.
PN leader Adrian Delia was present at the vigil along with other members of the PN, including Robert Cutajar, Francis Zammit Dimech, Jason Azzopardi, and Karol Aquilina. He however departed soon after being heckled and shouted at by individuals present at the vigil.
