
Two persons have violated the mandatory quarantine and have been fined €1,000, the government said.
Further checks have been carried out on those individuals who, according to measures announced by the government, should be observing mandatory quarantine.
Police officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, together with officials from the Directorate for Public Health and the Civil Protection Department, have carried out a total of 90 inspections in the first 24 hours, the government said in a statement
Two cases were found to be in violation of the quarantine rules, and therefore have been fined one thousand euro and must follow quarantine regulations. The statement did not indicate the nationality of the people caught and the locality.
The inspections will continue in the coming hours and days, in both private residences and hotels.
Inspections can also be done in places that have already been previously inspected. The police have reported that persons undergoing an inspection have all been fully cooperative.
The Minister for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri thanked the police and all the officers, who in these crucial times are working closely with the health authorities to help combat the spread of Covid-19.
