Road collapse: BCA asks police to take action against developer, architect

The Building and Construction Agency (BCA) has asked the police to initiate criminal proceedings against the developer and architect involved in a partial road collapse in St Julian’s on Wednesday.

No one was injured when the collapse took place in a construction site in Triq Ivo Muscat Azzopardi.

In a statement, Pendergardens said this plot of land had been sold a few years back to third parties,  who are now fully responsible for the  development of this site.

But the BCA said the developer involved was in breach of Subsidiary Legislation 513.06, Avoidance of Damage to Third Party Property.

The authority said it has requested the Executive Police to initiate criminal proceedings against the developer and Perit in charge of the project in consequence to the breach of the obligation to submit the required documents prior to the commencement of works, thus works should not have commenced on the site in question.

According to reports, the developer is also involved in the Hamrun building collapse from earlier this month. A woman was killed in that incident.

In a statement, Pendergardens said this plot of land had been sold a few years back to third parties,  who are now fully responsible for the  development of this site.

Pendergardens completed all its project related civil construction works late last year, and no further construction works are being carried out within its complex.
