Cardiologist Dr Melanie Zammit Borg shared a message on social media to reassure that those individuals who need care should still go to Mater Dei Hospital before their situation gets worse.
“As our Health Minister (Chris Fearne) has emphasised before, if you have a condition and you think you need hospital treatment, please do not wait for the situation to escalate or get worse, as this will become an issue for the individual and the health care system,” said Zammit Borg.
Health Minister Fearne has appealed to the public that those in need of care or treatment should not avoid the hospital.
In her video, Zammit Borg said that herself and other cardiologists had just finalised a list of those patients who need to have the batteries of their pacemakers changed and that the team are evaluating every patient to ensure that they still receive the necessary treatment.
She also posted a number of pictures of her colleagues, to thank them for their hard work, and that they are all heroes.
“It is a privilege to be working with them, they are all champions. Please help us fight this by washing your hands and practicing social distancing.”
The Association of Surgeons also ghave reassurances to patients in this time of crisis.
