Five individuals are this evening set to be charged with involuntarily causing the death of Jean Paul Sofia, police said on Sunday.
In a statement, the police said that since a building collapse on 3 December last year claimed the life of 20-year-old Jean Paul Sofia who had gone to the partially constructed timber factory in Corradino Industrial Estate to deliver some tools their investigations have not stopped.
The police said that they worked hand in hand with inquiring magistrate Marseann Farrugia, and upon completion of her inquiry on Friday carried out the arrest of five individuals.
The police identified those arrested as two developers – a 37-year-old from Naxxar and a 38-year-old from Birkirkara – an architect – a 36-year-old from Zabbar – and two contractors – a 38-year-old living in Msida, and a 39-year-old living in Mosta.
The five are understood to be developers Kurt Buhagiar and Matthew Schembri – who lost an appeal in court yesterday to deem their arrest as illegal, architect Adriana Zammit, contractor Miromir Milosovic and an individual believed to be his relative.
The police said that they will be charged with involuntarily causing Sofia’s death and causing grievous injuries to other people, amongst other charges.
