Salesians of Don Bosco granted extension of social agreement by ministry

The Salesians of Don Bosco who manage the Osanna Pia Home and the Mamma Margherita Home have been granted an extension of their social agreement with the Ministry for Social Policy and Children’s Rights.

Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights  Michael Falzon, made the announcement during a visit he made to one of the residences. The agreed financing is spread over three years and amounts to more than a million euro.

These residences accommodate youths between the ages of 18 and 25 who find themselves without a roof over their heads, without assistance, and who cannot afford to live independently in private residences.

Moreover, these two residences prepare and train these young individuals so that gradually they become stronger and learn to make decisions on their own whilst managing their finances.

This financial support ensures that the services of the programmes offered are on a semi-independent basis and are tailored to every individual’s requirements. A service of 14 beds will be provided at the Osanna Pia Home and 7 beds at the Mamma Margherita Home.

“The aim is that through training and continuous work, the emotions and behaviour of these youths are improved, given that they often get negatively affected by everything happening around them. Ultimately, we want to see every young person integrate into the community and be capable of building a future, family, and career in what they truly desire,” said Falzon.

Minister Michael Falzon also announced that an additional €12 million has been allocated for the coming year to continue financing agreements that are already in place with various non-governmental organizations. Among these, two new agreements are to be made are with Dar Kenn Għal Saħħtek and the other with the Karl Vella Foundation.
