‘Complete lie’ – Joseph Muscat denies involvement in Daphne murder

Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat on Wednesday again denied any involvement in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in October 2017.

In a short Facebook post, Muscat was referring to testimony being read out in court this morning as the case against four men charged with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and Carmel Chircop entered its sixth day on Wednesday morning.

In her testimony before the magisterial inquiry into Caruana Galizia’s murder, Nicole Brignone said “she had been told that I paid someone to place a bomb which killed Daphne Caruana Galizia”. Brignone’s testimony was being read out in court today as part of the proceedings in the trial by jury.

Muscat said that what Brignone said “was a complete lie from start to finish”.

He said it was his government which brought over experts whose work led to “people admitting they had committed the crime”.

Muscat said he had never been informed about Brignone’s allegation and had never been asked to testify about it.

Muscat has always denied any involvement in the murder of the journalist.
