Nationalist Party unveils plaque recalling hero who carried bomb out of PN club

The Nationalist Party, on the initiative of the European Parliament election candidate Peter Agius, commemorated the actions of Paul Cremona with a memorial plaque on the promenade in St Julian’s, near where Cremona disposed of a bomb in 1984.

39 years ago, in 1984, Paul Cremona saved dozens of lives when he noticed a suspicious basket under a bench at the Nationalist Party Club in San Ġiljan, the PN said, adding that he grabbed the package and rushed to throw it into the sea, where it exploded harmlessly.

PN Leader Bernard Grech said that Cremona is a hero. He said that the country needs to remember and celebrate the country’s heroes and not forget the past because otherwise, “we risk living it again.”

Agius stated that by recalling Paul Cremona’s bravery, he realised that his heroic act wasn’t adequately commemorated. Therefore, he took the initiative to have a formal plaque installed at the site where Paul saved lives.

Paul Cremona’s family was also present. Warren Cremona said that his father, Paul, was wrongly accused by the police at that time, and that his family and close ones were grateful for his courage. Cremona thanked Agius and all those who assisted in ensuring that his father’s memory remains alive.

Present at the ceremony in St Julian’s were also the Secretary General of the Nationalist Party, Michael Piccinino, Party Officials, Members of Parliament, as well as the Mayor of St Julian’s Guido Dalli.
