
Three firefighters have been injured in a fire that broke out in Naxxar last night, the Cicil Protection Department said Friday.
The CPD said 50 firefighters and 15 fire applicances are tackling the fire.
During this operation 3 Firefighters substained injuries after a roof collapsed. 2 of the them were transferred to Mater Dei Hospital for further threatment.
Earlier, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said in a post on Facebook two persons had been injured, a worker and a volunteer.
The fire is under control but the operation is still ongoing, he said.
In a first post on social media, the minister said that a delicate fire-fighting operation is underway by Civil Protection in Naxxar. Other law enforcement forces are assisting, he said.
Part of Naxxar’s Burmarrad Road, close to It-Telgħa t’Alla u Ommu, is currently closed off to traffic as members of the Civil Protection Department are still on site.
The police were first informed about a fire, which broke out in a storage unit, at Triq Burmarrad at around 8pm on Thursday.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
