Birżebbuġa primary school has reported a case of scabies. The Education Ministry confirmed it was following up the case, along with the Health Ministry. 
“When a child or educator is confirmed to have scabies, the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Unit will provide treatment to the confirmed case as well as prophylaxis to the immediate family members,” a spokeswoman for the Education Ministry said.
The child or educator would only return to school or work once given clearance by the health authorities, the spokeswoman said.
Parents were warned of the case last week following the case, the Education Ministry said.

A case of scabies had been reported last year at the San Ġorg Preca primary school in Ħamrun, with authorities saying they had taken the necessary precautions and interventions according to procedures.
Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite. Intense itching occurs in the area where the mite burrows.
