George Degiorgio, one of the three people accused of carrying out the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, has been admitted to hospital after being beaten up by another prisoner, TVM report.

Known as Ic-Ciniz, Degiorgio was reportedly taken to hospital on Thursday after he was involved in an argument with another prisoner which escalated.

TVM reported that the other prisoner allegedly attacked Degiorgio with an object in his hand after the argument escalated, leaving him with blood coming out of his head.  The national news station reported that Degiorgio was taken to hospital with an armed escort, where he was treated for head, neck shoulder, and chest injuries.

TVM report that they understand that action by the authorities is being taken against the other prisoner involved.

The news comes only days after the Corradino Correctional Facility director Colonel Alexander Dalli said in court that there had been no fights in jail for the past three or four months.

Degiorgio is one of three – his brother Alfred, and Vince Muscat being the other two – accused of murdering Daphne Caruana Galizia, and was recently formally charged with the murder.  The Degiorgio brothers, along with George’s partner Anca Adelina Pop, were also recently charged with money laundering.
