A man who works as a watchman was found bound and gagged outside a kiosk in the area known as Ghar id-Dud in Sliema this morning, the police said.

The man was discovered unconscious, with tape across his mouth, at around 7.30am, outside the Mason’s Coffee Shop in Tower Road.

The kiosk has been burgled, with thousands of euros stolen from a safe.

CCTV footage shows that the robbery took place at around 4.30am, when the worker, a man from Pakistan aged 40, was cleaning the premises before opening hours, the police said.

The worker was taken to hospital suffering from slight injuries, and was discharged later.

An investigation has been launched.
