A woman has been jailed after she abandoned her dog and two cats when she moved out of her flat, British media report.

Tiffany Guest, 29, locked cats Reggie and Ronnie and dog Kray in the flat in Kenilworth, Warwickshire, a British court heard.

When police broke in they discovered that Kray had eaten Ronnie after running out of food he scavenged from the bin. He was taken into the care of the RSPCA on May 30, 2017, and on Wednesday Guest was given an 18-week prison sentence.

Guest was tracked down to her place of work, just a mile away from the flat, but she fled to Malta in a bid to avoid justice, the Metro reports.

She returned to the UK last year and was arrested at the border. She appeared before magistrates but after being granted bail she fled to Malta again and was re-arrested when she came back to the UK on October 10.

This time she was remanded in custody until her court hearing at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court. As well as the prison sentence she was banned from keeping animals for 15 years.

RSPCA Inspector Boris Lasserre said after the case: ‘It is incomprehensible to think the suffering these pets must have endured and how terrified they must have been for such a long period of time before the cats died of starvation.

The RSPCA released pictures of the animals and how Kray’s condition improved after being taken care of.
