The Planning application for the proposed new outpatients building at Mater Dei Hospital has been released, and so have visual images of the proposal showing a large building right next to the Life Sciences Park, on the grounds leading up to the main hospital. The images also show some kind of pedestrian bridge linking up to the main hospital building.

The building itself was also mentioned in the budget for 2020, which highlighted that it will offer higher quality services and a more positive experience for patients.

The proposal involves the construction of a new outpatient building for the Mater Dei Hospital, consisting of five belowground levels and six aboveground levels.

The ground floor, which will function as the main entrance. The below ground levels will include a bus terminus, car parking spaces, an Enemalta distribution centre and main staff areas. The aboveground levels include the said main entrance and five additional levels for clinical spaces and plant rooms.

The proposed development will have a total gross floor area of 76,996 m2 and include 630 parking spaces.
