The Ministry for Health and Active Ageing has announced a call for tenders for the reconstruction of the Msida elderly home.
The Msida elderly home will be rebuilt in a project which will cost the government some €13.5 million, the Health Ministry said in a statement. The rebuilding of the elderly home was first announced in February 2022.
The old building, which had not undergone extensive renovations for many years, accommodated 64 elderly residents. The decision was made to rebuild the home to increase capacity to more than 114 residents and to offer the highest level of services. It was also decided to relocate the existing residents during the reconstruction, the ministry said.
In the planning stage, not only was the quality of life for the elderly taken into consideration, but the environmental aspect of the project was also given importance. Therefore, the call for tenders requires that the new home be built to high standards for energy efficiency, with attention also given to the aesthetics of the building, the ministry continued.
Earlier this year, the government also announced a call for tenders for a new retirement home in Bormla. This further demonstrates the government’s investment in ensuring high-quality residential facilities for our elderly population, it concluded.
