Mosta priest David Muscat slammed a Fintech entrepreneur who was chosen to be the main speaker for Malta’s Victory Day celebrations.

Muscat said that the main speech was delivered by Dr Abdalla Kablan, “who isn’t even Maltese.” Muscat was speaking near the Victory Day memorial. Kablan founded Delta Summit for emerging technologies, and while his parents are not Maltese, he is, and lived here his whole life.

Muscat is the same priest who was criticized for attending Norman Lowell’s birthday party. Muscat said that Kablan’s ancestors “fired bullets at your ancestors centuries ago and everyone clapped for him.” He said that the worst part is that Kablan is “Barbary like them, the soldiers at the Great Siege weren’t only Turks but came from the Maghreb too.”

Kablan posted the following on Facebook: “A few days ago I had the honour of delivering Malta’s Victory Day commemoration speech, it was an honour of a lifetime to express my love, gratitude, and vision for the country that I dearly love. Unfortunately this has brought along with it some ugly and racist hate speech fuelled by lies and instigation targeting my ethnicity and background.”

“Whilst I know that such hate does not in anyway represent the Malta I know and love, I’m here sharing my speech for those who are asking me about it. I’m sharing it in both English and Maltese so everyone can understand it. Given the occasion, I obviously delivered it in Maltese. I also thank all the friends who expressed their solidarity and support. I will continue working hard.”

Kablan linked his speech along with the Facebook post. He spoke about Victory Day and also about the island’s ambition to become a world leader in emerging technology.

He spoke about his passion for such technology coming from their potential to build a better future.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had said that he personally chose Kablan to be the main speaker, to show what modern Malta is about.
