A prisoner died in hospital today, a day after collapsing in his cell, the Department of Information said.
The prisoner, of Maltese nationality, was found unconscious in his cell on Saturday evening.
Two prison officers gave him first aid until an ambulance arrived and he was taken to Mater Dei hospital.

The statement did not give the age of the inmate.
A magisterial inquiry was launched and an internal investigation is being carried out.
