There have been 565 reports of missing people so far this year of which 51 have still not been found, said Home Affairs and National Security Minister Michael Farrugia.

Farrugia was responding to a set of questions regarding how many people were missing year by year in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, presented by government whip Byron Camilleri.

The first question regarded how many people were missing across these years. The number of missing people was relatively high, at no point in time going below 450 individuals. This continued to increase along the years up to 2019, but was radically high in 2017 as 949 individuals were missing, he said.

Camilleri also asked how many of these missing people were women and how many of them were men. The minister said that in the years 2013 to 2015 the amount of missing men was higher in comparison to missing women.

However, this changed in the year of 2016, resulting in more missing women in comparison to men.

The most recent report for this year showed that the number of missing males resulted in 253 individuals being missing, and the number of missing female’s was 312.
