The Labour government will continue to invest in Gozo, as it has done in the past 11 years, Prime Minister Robert Abela said on Saturday.

Speaking in Xewkija, he said that the Nationalist government had abandoned the Xewkija industrial estate, whereas the Labour government had given it a new lease of life.

He said employment in Gozo has risen in bigger doses than that of Malta, while unemployment reduced at a double rate.

He said that now that the economic targets have been reached, the next step will be that Gozo becomes a model of development.

He mentioned a number of projects that had pushed Gozo forward, such as the second fibre optic cable, the fast ferry service, the water production plant and also the protection given to Hondoq ir-Rummien.
